Dragon Ball Z is infamous for its epic, knock-down, drag-out martial arts battles, which regularly leave characters dead and/or entire planets destroyed. Dozens of video games have been released over the years that strive to capture that action, regularly succeeding, but few of those bother trying to capture any of the stuff that happens in between fights to give that action much emotional weight.
I got a chance to sit down and play the first few hours of Dragon Ball Z Kakarot, and while it’s certainly not short on kicking, punching, and energy blasts, I was extremely pleased how much attention was paid to the other stuff that makes the anime and manga great.
